Sumatra: A Language for Resource-Aware Mobile Programs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Programs that use mobility as a mechanism to adapt to resource changes have three requirements that are not shared with other mobile programs. First, they need to monitor the level and quality of resources in their operating environment. Second, they need to be able to react to changes in resource availability. Third, they need to be able to control the way in which resources are used on their behalf (by libraries and other support code). In this chapter, we describe the design and implementation of Sumatra, an extension of Java that supports resourceaware mobile programs. We also describe the design and implementation of a distributed resource monitor that provides the information required by Sumatra programs.

SARANA: language, compiler and run-time system support for spatially aware and resource-aware mobile computing.
Increasingly, spatial awareness plays a central role in many distributed and mobile computing applications. Spatially aware applications rely on information about the geographical position of compute devices and their supported services in order to support novel functionality. While many spatial application drivers already exist in mobile and distributed computing, very little systems research ...
متن کاملAnalyzing Sorting Algorithms in Resource Aware ML
Software development sometimes requires to statically predict the quantity of resources—such as memory and time—that is needed to execute a program. The difficulties of manual resource analysis led to extensive research on automatic methods for quantitative resource analysis. Recently we developed an automatic amortized analysis to compute polynomial resource bounds for first-order functional p...
متن کاملO'Camelot: adding objects to a resource-aware functional language
We outline an object-oriented extension to Camelot, a functional language in the ML family designed for resource aware computation. Camelot is compiled for the Java Virtual Machine, and our extension allows Camelot programs to interact easily with the Java object system, harnessing the power of Java libraries and allowing Java programs to incorporate resource-bounded Camelot code.2
متن کاملResource Aware ML
The automatic determination of the quantitative resource consumption of programs is a classic research topic which has many applications in software development. Recently, we developed a novel multivariate amortized resource analysis that automatically computes polynomial resource bounds for first-order functional programs. In this tool paper, we describe Resource Aware ML (RAML), a functional ...
متن کاملSome Techniques for Automated, Resource-Aware Distributed and Mobile Computing in a Multi-paradigm Programming System
Distributed parallel execution systems speed up applications by splitting tasks into processes whose execution is assigned to different receiving nodes in a high-bandwidth network. On the distributing side, a fundamental problem is grouping and scheduling such tasks such that each one involves sufficient computational cost when compared to the task creation and communication costs and other suc...
